Santa Cruz de Tenerife advances Benijo Beach recovery project

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is proceeding with the recovery project for Benijo Beach in Anaga. This decision follows a meeting between Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and representatives from the Canary Islands' Directorate General of Coasts.

Despite an unfavorable report from the Spanish State's Coast administration, the Canary Islands government has maintained its position to classify the planned actions as emergency works. This classification allows the administrative process to continue without the initial requirement of a formal administrative concession.

The beach has been closed since July 2024 due to risks associated with cliff stability. Local officials stated that the works are essential to secure the slopes near the bathing area and ensure public safety. The administration aims to begin construction as soon as the remaining technical and legal procedures are completed.
