Santa Cruz de Tenerife Boosts Night Patrols Amid Spate of Container and Vehicle Arsons

The municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has activated a special night‑surveillance operation in response to a recent wave of vandalism. Local police officers in civilian dress are patrolling the city to deter and catch those responsible for the arson attacks.

Incidents this week include the burning of four waste containers in the El Sobradillo neighbourhood and the torching of a vehicle in the El Perú district. Earlier, similar attacks in the Somosierra and Salud‑La Salle areas saw 14 containers and six cars damaged.

Councilor for Security Gladis de León said each container costs about €1,500 and emphasized the criminal nature of the acts. She announced a meeting with local residents, neighbourhood associations and police officials to investigate the crimes and address community concerns.
