Santa Cruz de Tenerife demolishes stairs in abandoned Añaza building

The city administration of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has implemented safety measures at an abandoned building in Añaza by demolishing internal staircases. The works, commissioned by the urban planning authority, involved removing access points from the ground floor up to the fourth floor, as well as the stairs from the sixth floor to the upper levels.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that these actions are a significant step toward preventing access to the upper areas of the building and reducing the risks associated with entering the structure in its current condition. Urban planning Councilor Zaida González noted that further work will be conducted to prevent access via ground-level embankments by removing them and creating a trench.

The broader safety plan includes five main measures intended to secure the site and make internal pathways inaccessible, such as repairing perimeter fencing and blocking access points.
