Santa Cruz de Tenerife finalizes Low Emission Zone regulations

The Low Emission Zone (ZBE) for Santa Cruz de Tenerife has received its definitive regulation following its publication in the Official Provincial Gazette. The ordinance establishes a progressive implementation plan to manage vehicle access, circulation, and parking within a large area of the capital's center.

The restrictions will not be immediate. The operational regime, which includes the Municipal Vehicle Registry and authorization systems, will begin 18 months after the ordinance takes effect. The punitive regime, involving fines, will not be enforced until 36 months after the ordinance enters into force. During the intermediate period, non-compliant drivers will receive notifications that are strictly informative in nature.

The restrictions will apply from Monday to Saturday, between 07:00 and 20:00. Outside of these hours, any vehicle may access and circulate within the zone regardless of its environmental label. The zone covers 92 streets, avenues, plazas, and sections of the center of Santa Cruz. Numerous exceptions have been established for residents, workers, large families, students, medical patients, and customers of local businesses such as hotels and workshops.
