Santa Cruz de Tenerife renovates Los Gladiolos residential block

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a major renovation project for Block 7 in the Los Verodes area of the Los Gladiolos IV residential district. Funded by the European Next Generation EU programme, the project aims to transform a building dating back to 1977 through a focus on energy efficiency, universal accessibility, and circular economy principles.

A primary goal of the renovation is to reduce non-renewable primary energy consumption by more than 65%, exceeding the original 60% target. This will be achieved through the installation of photovoltaic modules on the roof to power hot water storage via a photothermal system, as well as replacing communal area lighting with high-efficiency LED technology equipped with motion sensors.

To improve accessibility for the 16 resident households, the project includes the installation of a new electric lift in a building that previously lacked one. The renovation also involves removing architectural barriers and installing Braille and tactile signage to assist residents with reduced mobility. The works are being managed to allow residents to remain in their homes during the process, with a waste management plan aiming to recover at least 70% of non-hazardous waste generated.
