Rio Grande do Sul municipalities boost health services with exam mutirão and cataract surgery outreach
The municipality of Osório announced a R$1.5 million investment to conduct a mutirão of diagnostic exams, aiming to perform roughly 9,000 examinations and reduce a backlog of about 15,000 procedures. The campaign covers medium‑complexity tests such as mammography, endoscopy, colonoscopy, tomography and ultrasound, with the goal of accelerating diagnoses and enabling subsequent specialist consultations.
In Cachoeira do Sul, the municipal health department is focusing on locating 39 patients awaiting cataract surgery – 11 referred in 2023 and 28 in 2024 – whose contact details are outdated. Authorities are urging these SUS users to update their registration at local health posts or with community health agents so the surgeries can be scheduled and carried out.
