Santa Cruz drives Bolivian economic growth and investment
The department of Santa Cruz remains a primary driver of the Bolivian economy, contributing 30.2% to the national GDP in 2024. The region is characterized by a diverse productive landscape including agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, and services, with 33.5 million hectares of potential productive land.
Santa Cruz has also become a major hub for internal migration, with nearly 100,000 people moving to the department from other regions between 2019 and 2024. This growth is supported by a robust urban population, with 82.8% of its 3.1 million inhabitants living in urban areas.
In a recent business event organized by the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Services and Tourism of Santa Cruz (CAINCO), approximately 600 companies from 20 countries gathered to evaluate investment opportunities in sectors such as agroindustry, mining, and technology. Business intentions during the event exceeded $100 million. Discussions regarding investment also touched upon potential constitutional reforms aimed at addressing restrictions on foreign enterprise operations.
