Santa Cruz Governor Claudio Vidal launches $500,000 teacher incentive

Governor Claudio Vidal of Argentina's Santa Cruz Province announced Decree No. 673, creating a "Estímulo por Nuestra Educación" that awards a fixed, non‑remunerative payment of 500,000 pesos to teachers, supervisors and support staff who attend school every working day from February to June 2026. The ceremony was held in the White Hall of the Casa de Gobierno and was attended by provincial ministers and education officials.

Union leader Juan Manuel Valentín, secretary‑general of the Río Gallegos branch of the teachers' association ADOSAC, condemned the measure, calling it an attempt at indoctrination and intimidation. He argued that the funds would come from deductions applied to teachers who strike and highlighted disparities between teachers' salaries and those of provincial officials. Valentín also criticized the lack of resources for genuine wage increases and the slow progress of the province's school‑repair plan.
