Bolivia is implementing various measures to address a critical fuel shortage. Under Supreme Decree 5701, refineries are now authorized to import crude oil and sell derivatives at market prices without subsidies. While the CAO warns this will not fully resolve the deficit, it aims to increase national production.

In Santa Cruz, Governor Juan Pablo Velasco is facilitating private fuel imports through a new international provider. He has also advocated for removing subsidies for most sectors, suggesting they be maintained only for public transport to ensure fair competition. Meanwhile, a refinery in Cuatro Cañadas remains idle, awaiting authorization from the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) to begin processing.

In the Beni department, the first shipment of 35,000 liters of diesel from Brazil is expected to arrive via Guayaramerín to support the local productive sector. Additionally, President Rodrigo Paz has promised upcoming announcements regarding new investments and legislation intended to recover the country’s energy and hydrocarbon production capacity.
