Santa Cruz home care workers protest for workplace safety rights

More than fifty home care workers from the Servicio de Ayuda a Domicilio (SAD) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife held a protest at the Mutua Universal headquarters. The workers, employed through the company Atende, are demanding that the daily risks and incidents they face during home visits be officially recognized as occupational accidents to ensure their right to medical leave.

Verónica González, president of the works committee, highlighted the need for prevention and protection. She specifically noted that eight sexual assaults—including physical and verbal abuse—were reported by workers in the last year. The protesters are calling on the City Council, the employer, and the Mutua to evaluate real risks, including physical violence, hygiene conditions, extreme temperatures, and the physical strain of moving bedridden users.
