Santa Cruz hosts free historical walking tour in Rio de Janeiro

The Rolé Carioca project is hosting a free guided walking tour through the Santa Cruz neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro's West Zone this Saturday. The tour aims to highlight the area's historical heritage, covering its evolution from indigenous occupation and Portuguese colonization to the imperial period.

Led by tour guide Andressa Lobo, the route includes landmarks such as the Palacete Princesa Isabel, the Marco Imperial Onze, and the Vila Histórica do Matadouro. The initiative seeks to reshape the local narrative by focusing on historical and cultural significance rather than common associations with violence or precariousness. Participants can meet at the Central do Brasil ticket office to catch the 8:22 a.m. train.
