Santa Cruz hosts VII Provincial Chinook Salmon Festival

The VII Provincial Chinook Salmon Festival was held in Piedra Buena, Santa Cruz, from October 9 to 11. Despite favorable weather conditions, including pleasant temperatures and low winds, no salmon were caught during the tournament. As a result, the prize pool—consisting of 2,000,000 pesos for first place, 1,000,000 for second, and 500,000 for third—was distributed via a draw among the participating fishermen.

Fernando Romero, Director of Continental Fishing, noted that the event had previously been postponed due to weather. He confirmed that Chinook salmon fishing remains permitted in the Piedra Buena area until November 30. Additionally, the fishing season for other species in the Santa Cruz River, including rainbow trout, brown trout, steelhead, perch, sea bass, and silverside, has officially commenced.
