Cuba extends daylight saving time until November 2027

Cuba will maintain daylight saving time until November 7, 2027, to mitigate the impact of a severe energy crisis and frequent power outages. The decision was announced jointly by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS).

Authorities stated that keeping the clocks advanced will prevent an estimated 126 MW increase in demand during peak afternoon hours. This includes a 76 MW saving from reduced artificial lighting and 50 MW contributed by solar photovoltaic generation. The government attributed the fuel shortages causing the electricity deficit to the economic blockade imposed by the United States.

To minimize disruptions to daily life, school and work start times will be delayed by 30 minutes from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027. Employers and unions will coordinate specific schedule adjustments for continuous operations to ensure no impact on worker salaries.
