Santa Cruz Police implement vehicle detection technology at Güer Aike

The Santa Cruz Police have strengthened security and preventive controls at the Güer Aike checkpoint, a primary entry and exit point for Río Gallegos. The enhancement involves the implementation of new technological tools, most notably a vehicle detection system featuring automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras.

Commissioned Officer María Eugenia Sarapura, second chief of the Güer Aike Operative Unit, stated that the exterior cameras automatically identify vehicle domains as they pass through the control post. If the system detects a match associated with an active judicial alert or a seizure order, it generates an immediate notification. This allows officers to verify the situation and coordinate with the relevant judicial authorities to secure the vehicle.

These technological advancements are integrated with national security platforms, including SIFCOP and miMinseg. These tools enable officers to cross-reference information regarding persons and vehicles against databases from various jurisdictions across the country, facilitating rapid responses to capture orders and other legal mandates.
