Santa Cruz police report high rates of drunk driving

The Santa Cruz Highway Police reported high rates of alcohol consumption among drivers during recent roadside inspections. Out of 19 vehicle impoundments recorded over the last two weeks, 14 were due to positive blood alcohol levels, representing approximately three out of every four impoundments.

Authorities expressed deep concern regarding the extremely high alcohol concentrations detected in several cases, noting that such levels significantly impair reflexes and reaction times. The police emphasized that driving under the influence poses a severe risk to both the drivers and other road users.

Under Provincial Law No. 3484, Santa Cruz enforces a ‘zero tolerance’ policy, prohibiting any blood alcohol concentration above zero. The Highway Police have announced they will intensify preventive controls and awareness campaigns throughout the province to reduce traffic accidents.
