Santa Cruz Police Salary Dispute Persists under Governor Claudio Vidal

The provincial police of Santa Cruz, Argentina, continue a wage‑strike despite Governor Claudio Vidal’s claim that the conflict was resolved. Officers who organized themselves demand a direct meeting with the governor, saying communication channels have broken down.

The administration raised the pocket salary for agents without seniority from 1,182,351 to 1,746,634 pesos after seven meetings and 15 proposals failed to reach an agreement in the Salary Council. Police representative Lidia Mario warned that several stations – Río Gallegos, El Calafate, El Chaltén, 28 de Noviembre and Río Turbio – remain mobilized and called for guarantees against retaliation.

Vidal had announced on 11 July that he would personally hold talks with officers of various ranks, but a week later the self‑organized protesters were still awaiting that audience.
