Santa Cruz railway reactivation project receives ALCO RSD-35 locomotive
An ALCO RSD-35 diesel-electric locomotive is being transported to Santa Cruz as part of a provincial project to reactivate the historical railway corridor. The 79.2-ton unit, which was repaired in Buenos Aires, recently passed through Comodoro Rivadavia, causing traffic delays due to its size and slow transit speed.
Santa Cruz Governor Claudio Vidal stated that the project aims to restore connectivity between Jaramillo, Fitz Roy, and Las Heras. The initiative focuses on developing the Puerto Deseado–Las Heras corridor for tourism, production, and logistics. In addition to the cargo locomotive, the province is working with Materfer to construct a new dual-system unit specifically for tourism. Vidal emphasized that the administration is pursuing these infrastructure improvements through management and agreements despite limited resources.
