OXXO stores in Cancún to serve as safety points for women

In Cancún, Mexico, the municipal government of Benito Juárez has partnered with the OXXO retail chain to establish 272 ‘Puntos Morados’ (Purple Points). This initiative aims to provide safe spaces for women, children, and adolescents facing violence. Participating stores will offer temporary shelter and staff will be trained to activate emergency protocols and contact authorities, including the Municipal Institute for Women and specialized gender violence groups.

Separately, OXXO Gas has donated 28,000 liters of fuel to the Mexican Red Cross through its ‘Litros con Causa’ program to support emergency medical services. In other commercial news, three OXXO locations in Arandas, Mexico, have closed, with reports suggesting local grocery stores have maintained consumer preference due to lower prices and personal service.

In the tourism sector, various regional efforts are underway. Santa Cruz, Argentina, is working to expand its tourism destinations and improve air connectivity through discussions with airlines like JetSMART. In the Dominican Republic, Meliá Hotels International is promoting sports tourism as a key growth driver. Additionally, Los Cabos, Mexico, and Playa del Carmen, Mexico, have recently participated in international tourism fairs in Buenos Aires and Paris to strengthen their presence in European and Latin American markets.
