Santa Efigênia celebrates centenary of Congado tradition

The Santa Efigênia neighborhood will host the Festejo do Congado Santa Efigênia on September 20. The event is part of the commemorative calendar celebrating the 236th anniversary of Lafaiete.

The celebration highlights a century-old tradition maintained by local families through the transmission of religious and cultural roles across generations. The Guarda de Congado de Santa Efigênia officially marked its centenary in 2025, having been founded in 1925. The municipal council recognized this milestone with a unanimous Motion of Applause, noting the group's role in preserving Afro-Brazilian culture in the municipality.
