Santa Fe to decouple 2027 elections from national vote

Governor Maximiliano Pullaro has announced that Santa Fe will decouple its 2027 elections from the national presidential elections. The decision aims to protect local political debates from being overshadowed by national issues and to mitigate the 'drag effect' of national ballots.

Under the proposed schedule, the province will maintain its Primarias Abiertas, Simultáneas y Obligatorias (PASO). Key dates include the deadline for alliance registration on February 7, 2027, and the presentation of candidate lists on February 12. The provincial PASO is scheduled for April 18, followed by general elections on June 13.

In the city of Rosario, voters will also elect conventionals to draft the city's first Organic Charter following its new autonomous status. The elections will determine the governor, vice-governor, provincial deputies, senators, mayors, and councilors.

The move has drawn criticism from opposition figures like Diego Giuliano of the Frente Renovador, who accused the administration of changing the rules of the game without sufficient dialogue. Conversely, Senator Marcelo Lewandowski noted that the dates are similar to previous electoral processes.
