Santa Fe approves electric mobility promotion program

The Santa Fe City Council has approved an ordinance to establish the Municipal Program for the Promotion of Electric Mobility. Authored by Councilwoman María Luengo, the initiative aims to create a local framework for planning and promoting electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Currently, the city of Santa Fe lacks public charging stations. The program seeks to encourage private sector investment by fostering cooperation between the provincial government, the Empresa Provincial de la Energía, universities, and academic institutions. The plan does not commit municipal funds.

The initiative highlights a significant rise in electric and hybrid vehicle registrations in the province, noting that 2,531 vehicles were registered in the first six months of 2026, compared to 1,750 in the entirety of 2025. By leveraging Santa Fe’s strategic location on Route 168 and the bioceanic corridor, the program intends to support local residents, regional transit, and tourism while promoting energy efficiency and reducing urban emissions.
