Santa Fe authorities investigate clandestine nursing home scandal

Authorities in Santa Fe are launching investigations following the discovery of a clandestine nursing home in the Nuevo Horizonte neighborhood. The facility, described as a ‘nursing home of horror,’ was uncovered after a fire revealed extreme neglect of seven elderly residents, including inadequate food, lack of hygiene, and missing medical care.

The Santa Fe Municipal Council has demanded detailed reports from the local administration regarding the oversight of elderly residential centers. Council members are seeking information on the municipal departments responsible for monitoring these facilities, the status of their licenses, and the professional qualifications of the staff employed in caregiving, nutrition, and medical services.

Simultaneously, the Regional Prosecutor's Office is investigating two prosecutors, Roberto Olcese and Manuel Cecchini, for allegedly failing to act on complaints filed in April and May. A relative of a resident had previously reported irregularities, but no progress was made until the case gained massive attention in late July. The Management Audit of the Public Prosecutor's Office will determine administrative responsibility for the lack of action, while the prosecutors remain involved in the ongoing criminal investigation.
