Santa Fe deputies approve reform to child support debtors registry

The Santa Fe Chamber of Deputies has granted semi-sanction status to a reform of the Provincial Registry of Obligatory Alimentary Debtors. The initiative aims to improve oversight and enforce child support payments through a modernized, digital, and interoperable system managed by the Provincial Executive Power.

The reform seeks to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for families by allowing real-time data sharing between the judiciary and public agencies. Under the proposed law, individuals declared as delinquent debtors could face several restrictions, including being barred from running for elective office, collecting gambling prizes, and entering certain first-division football stadiums.

Provincial Deputy Lionella Cattalini defended the measure, characterizing unpaid child support as a form of economic violence. She emphasized that judicial recognition of support rights is ineffective without timely enforcement, noting that non-payment impacts essential needs such as housing, education, and transportation.
