Santa Fe province salary talks trigger teacher rejection and split health‑union response

On 24 July, the provincial teachers' assembly AMSAFE voted to reject the Santa Fe government’s salary proposal, calling it insufficient, lacking an automatic inflation‑adjustment clause and noting a loss of purchasing power of over 30 %. The union announced a series of protests from 30 July through August, demanding a new offer with a 35 % recovery of lost wages and the removal of punitive attendance bonuses.

In the health sector, the Association of Argentine Medical Doctors (AMRA) accepted the same proposal with 53.4 % of its members voting in favour. The offer provides staggered increases for the second half of 2026 – 2 % in July, 1.8 % in August, 1.7 % in September, 1.6 % in October and 1.5 % in both November and December – plus a raise in the professional‑grade supplement from 9 % to 10 %, a work‑clothing allowance and guaranteed minimum monthly hikes. Conversely, the Union of University Health Professionals (Siprus) rejected the offer, with 76 % voting for a strike on 30 July and planning mobilisations.

The contrasting outcomes illustrate the growing tension around Santa Fe’s public‑sector wage negotiations, as the government seeks to balance its budget while unions demand stronger protections against inflation.
