Santa Fe enacts law to measure labor informality

The province of Santa Fe has become the first in Argentina to establish a legal framework for the periodic measurement of labor informality. A law proposed by Deputy Lucila De Ponti mandates the creation of annual statistical indicators to track unregistered work within the province.

The Provincial Institute of Statistics and Censuses (IPEC) will be responsible for processing microdata from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) to produce these reports. The measurements will be disaggregated by gender, age, region, and economic activity to provide a detailed view of the informal sector.

The initiative aims to provide the provincial government with the necessary data to design public policies focused on labor formalization. This comes amid a reported decline in registered employers in the province, according to data from the Superintendency of Labor Risks (SRT).
