Buenos Aires private schools to lift fees 8.1% in August‑September
The Province of Buenos Aires approved new tariff tables for private schools that receive state subsidies. The scheme raises fees by 5.5% for August and an additional 2.5% for September, resulting in an 8.1% cumulative increase over the two‑month period. The adjustment applies to all educational levels – initial, primary, secondary, technical, agrarian, artistic and higher education – and the maximum fees vary according to the proportion of state subsidy each school receives, ranging from 40% to 100%.
The Directorate General of Culture and Education issued the decree, but representatives of the private‑school sector say the increase is insufficient. Perpetuo Lentijo, director of the Association of Private Educational Entities of Argentina (Adeepra), said the rise does not cover higher utility costs, salaries and other operating expenses, threatening the financial sustainability of many institutions, especially those serving the most vulnerable families. The sector estimates that roughly 1.2 million students attend subsidised private schools in the province and warns that continued shortfalls could lead to school closures or reduced services.
