Santa Fe implements climate response plan and water risk management
The province of Santa Fe has implemented a new Provincial Climate Change Response Plan via Decree 959/2026. According to Minister of Environment and Climate Change Enrique Estévez, the plan aligns the province with the international commitments of the Paris Agreement and utilizes an integrated governmental approach.
Key components of the plan include a greenhouse gas inventory to reduce emissions and a rigorous analysis of water and sanitary risks. The province has identified 100 localities with high water vulnerability to prioritize infrastructure investments. Additionally, the government is focusing on the link between environment and production, such as ensuring the traceability of beef and leather products as deforestation-free.
On a local level, the Municipality of Santa Fe is expanding its "Prepared Community" program. This initiative provides risk management and emergency prevention workshops to municipal kindergartens. These sessions train families, teachers, and tutors on creating family contingency plans, identifying household risks, and understanding urban drainage systems to prepare for potential hydric emergencies.
