Santa Fe industry backs biofuel law and university partnership to boost regional competitiveness

The Santa Fe Industrial Union (UISF) pledged full support for a new biofuel law being advanced in the national Senate. The proposal, based on a 2025 provincial project, would raise the mandatory biodiesel content in diesel fuel to 15% (B15) with an option to increase to 20% (B20) if renewable fuel proves cheaper than imported fossil fuel. It also seeks to protect the sector from political discretion, limit blend reductions to extreme emergencies, and include large‑scale sustainable projects such as renewable diesel and green hydrogen. To prevent market monopolisation, the law would create a “Non‑Integrated Offer Segment” covering 40% of total demand and safeguard competition for soybean oil and methanol supplies.

In a parallel move, the rector of the National University of the Littoral (UNL), Laura Tarabella, visited the UISF headquarters to strengthen the historic university‑industry alliance. The meeting highlighted the role of higher education and research in enhancing industrial competitiveness, proposing joint initiatives such as internships, research projects, and tailored academic programmes to meet the region’s production challenges. Industrial leaders affirmed their backing for UNL’s continued growth and collaboration with the sector.
