Santa Fe launches pork price reduction program

The Government of Santa Fe has launched a new phase of the ‘Acuerdo Santa Fe’ program, aimed at reducing food costs for consumers. Through an agreement between the provincial government, meatpacking plants, and supermarkets, several cuts of pork will be sold at a reduced price of $7,900 per kilogram during August and September.

This initiative, presented by the Minister of Productive Development, Gustavo Puccini, represents an approximate 20% discount compared to current market values. The program will be implemented progressively across 85 participating supermarkets in 20 different cities throughout the province. The specific cuts included in the agreement are cuadrada, peceto, cuadril, tortuguita, nalga, and bola de lomo.

Notably, the program does not rely on state subsidies. Instead, it is sustained by private sector actors—including the Chamber of Meatpacking Plants and various supermarket associations—who have agreed to reduce their profit margins to maintain the lower retail price. Officials highlighted that the cost of pork under this agreement is nearly one-third the price of beef, offering a more accessible protein alternative for families.
