Santa Fe Ombudsman requests Banco Santa Fe adjust credit card deadlines

The Defensoría del Pueblo de Santa Fe has filed a formal request with Banco Santa Fe to postpone credit card expiration dates for Visa summaries. The request follows numerous complaints regarding recent changes to payment deadlines that fall before the dates when provincial public administration employees receive their salaries.

Because Banco Santa Fe is the primary institution used by state employees to receive their wages, the mismatch in dates could force workers to incur interest charges for being unable to settle balances before being paid. The Defensoría cited Article 42 of the National Constitution to protect the economic rights of users and has also sent the request to the User Protection Management of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA).

In response to the unrest caused by changes to September deadlines, Banco Santa Fe stated it will not charge interest to those whose expiration dates precede their salary payments and indicated that future dates will be aligned with the public administration's payment schedule.
