Santa Fe Province accelerates flood‑risk infrastructure projects in 100+ localities

The government of Argentina's Santa Fe province is speeding up works to reduce water‑related risk in more than 100 high‑vulnerability towns. Governor Maximiliano Pullaro made flood mitigation a priority early in his term, and Public Works Minister Lisandro Enrico said the administration has identified 100 of the province’s 365 municipalities as most exposed to extreme precipitation. Seventy‑six of those sites already have works completed or under construction, while the remaining 24 are in early‑stage planning.

Projects include new storm‑drainage channels, cleaning and rehabilitation of existing canals, upgrades to sewers and the construction of urban flood defenses and road connections to keep routes open during floods. Funding comes from National Treasury contributions and provincial resources. Secretary of Water Resources Nicolás Mijich highlighted recent water‑governance workshops with basin committees, municipalities and producers that helped set objective criteria for selecting interventions. With forecasts of rainfall exceeding normal levels, officials stress preventive action and continued maintenance to improve the province’s hydrological response.

The effort aims to protect both residential communities and productive areas, enhancing drainage capacity and reducing the likelihood of flooding that has affected the region in past years.
