Santa Fe Province launches cleaning of 14 main drainage channels

The government of Argentina’s Santa Fe province began work on June 22 to clean and rehabilitate 14 major drainage channels that run through the southern part of the province, including the urban area of Rosario. The first stage started at the Ludueña stream in northern Rosario and will proceed to a series of canals and arroyos serving 48 districts across the departments of Belgrano, Caseros, Constitución, General López, Iriondo, Rosario and San Lorenzo, covering roughly 322 km of waterways and 660,000 ha of land.

The project, designed in meetings dating back to 2025, is funded with an official budget of 9,653,188,255.70 Argentine pesos. Its goals are to improve drainage efficiency, lower flood risk for urban and rural areas, stabilize road and infrastructure, and provide up‑to‑date topographic data for preventive maintenance. Officials attending the launch included Santa Fe Public Works Minister Lisandro Enrico, Water Resources Secretary Nicolás Mijich, Rosario municipal secretary Sebastián Chale and Urban Maintenance Sub‑Secretary Jonatan Pérez, along with several provincial legislators and water‑management directors.

Beneficiaries listed for the various canals include the cities and towns of Rosario, Ricardone, Ibarlucea, Funes, Roldán, Venado Tuerto, Carmen, Chapuy, Santa Isabel, San Jerónimo Sur, Luis Palacios, Aldao, San Lorenzo, Puerto General San Martín, Cañada de Gómez, Correa, Carcarañá, Chovet, Melincué, Carreras, Miguel Torres, Alcorta, Bombal, Firmat, Bigand, Sandford, Labordeboy, Wheelwright, Juncal, Hughes, María Teresa, Christophersen, San Gregorio, Diego de Alvear, Montes de Oca, Las Parejas, Las Rosas, Bouquet, and others.
