Santa Fe Province launches climate change response plan with 35 measures
The government of Santa Fe Province in Argentina unveiled the Plan Provincial de Respuesta al Cambio Climático, a comprehensive strategy comprising 35 measures aimed at anticipating, preventing and mitigating the impacts of extreme weather events. The plan, announced at the Museo de la Constitución Nacional, was presented alongside a Climate Variability Report prepared by the Centro de Estudios de Variabilidad y Cambio Climático (Cevarcam).
Key components include an inventory of greenhouse‑gas emissions, a climate‑risk analysis to guide policy, a new Water‑Basin Master Plan, identification of the 100 most water‑risk municipalities, maintenance of 16,000 km of provincial canals, and infrastructure upgrades to improve connectivity in the central and northern parts of the province. A dedicated emergency fund of 10 billion Argentine pesos will support rapid responses to climate‑related emergencies such as floods, droughts and El Niño events. Minister of Environment and Climate Change Enrique Estévez emphasized that the plan integrates climate variables into all areas of state planning and addresses health impacts like the spread of vector‑borne diseases.
