Santa Fe province proposes 10%‑15% salary hikes for teachers and public workers

The government of Argentina’s Santa Fe province presented a new salary proposal in a paritaria meeting. For teachers, the offer includes a near‑15 % increase for the second half of 2026 and an average annual rise of about 49 %, which would raise a reference teacher’s pay to AR$1,517,481 by December 2026. For the central public administration, the plan provides up to a 15.5 % raise for lower‑tier staff, with guaranteed minimum amounts that rise to AR$180,000 by December and are counted toward the aguinaldo.

The teachers’ union AMSAFE criticised the offer, noting it sets a 10.1 % increase for the second semester, lacks an automatic inflation‑indexing clause, offers no compensation for retirees, and does not address a 35 % loss of purchasing power since December 2023. AMSAFE will vote on the proposal in a provincial assembly.

Other unions, including UPCN and ATE, described the proposal as “considerable” and “reasonable,” highlighting a compensation mechanism for workers whose first‑semester increase fell below inflation and a tiered minimum‑guarantee system. Consultations and votes are scheduled for early August. Additionally, the province approved the automatic promotion of 384 health‑sector employees to a higher category, effective retroactively to January 2026.
