Santa Fe reports reveal high poverty and labor informality

Recent reports highlight severe socioeconomic challenges in the city of Santa Fe, Argentina. An Analysis of Health Situation (ASIS) 2026 conducted by the Irma Carrica Health Mission of Patria Grande found that 69.4% of surveyed households in popular neighborhoods cannot cover their basic needs. The study, which covered 261 homes, revealed that 64.4% of residents face difficulties accessing food, while only 3.8% have any capacity for savings.

Living conditions are also precarious, with 34% of households experiencing overcrowding and 13% facing critical overcrowding. Access to essential services is limited; 18% of homes lack potable water, and 38% rely on informal electricity connections. In certain sectors like 29 de Abril, informal electricity connections reach 100%.

Complementing these findings, a report by the DEMOS Study Center regarding the labor situation shows that only 40% of youth aged 18 to 29 are employed. Among those working, two out of three do not make social security contributions, indicating high labor informality. The report also notes a significant gender wage gap and a trend where workers must rely on multiple jobs to meet basic living costs.
