Santa Fe security reform faces Supreme Court scrutiny
The government of Maximiliano Pullaro in Santa Fe is facing institutional scrutiny over a proposed security reform package currently under debate in the provincial Chamber of Deputies. The initiative aims to modify laws related to crime prevention and organized crime fighting.
Key points of contention include provisions that would allow for searches without judicial warrants, the taking of statements without the immediate presence of defense attorneys, and changes to intelligence regulations. Additionally, the reform proposes a new reward system that could be activated without prior requests from prosecutors.
During a plenary session of the Security and Constitutional Affairs commissions, representatives from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Defense Office, and the Supreme Court of Justice analyzed the proposal. Supreme Court Minister Daniel Erbetta raised concerns regarding the scope of the powers being delegated to police forces and the Public Prosecutor's Office, noting the need to align the project with current provincial legislation and international standards.
