Santa Fe Supreme Court strikes down pension cap for high retirees

The Supreme Court of the Argentine province of Santa Fe ruled 4‑3 that the provision limiting the highest pensions to an amount equivalent to 20 minimum pensions is unconstitutional. The decision also invalidated several articles of Law 14.283 that established the emergency pension regime and a solidarity contribution for certain retirees.

The case was brought by Elena Ramón, a retired prison worker, against the provincial government and the Caja de Jubilaciones y Pensiones. Governor Maximiliano Pullaro announced the government will consider appealing the ruling, noting that some of the justices themselves are affected by the reform.

The court ordered the provincial authorities to adjust the pension system within 30 days, opening the way for higher benefits to be paid to retirees previously subject to the cap.
