Santa Maria del Cedro launches new “Cedro d'Argento” cultural award

The municipality of Santa Maria del Cedro in Calabria unveiled a new institutional prize called the “Cedro d'Argento”. The award, a hand‑crafted sculpture of a cedar fruit, was created by local master goldsmiths Michele Affidato and his son Antonio Affidato. It was presented at the Arena dei Cedri during the opening of the town’s summer cultural program, with mayor Ugo Vetere handing the first award to singer‑songwriter Giorgia.

The prize is intended to be conferred in future years on personalities who, through their artistic, cultural or civic work, promote and celebrate the identity of Santa Maria del Cedro and the wider Riviera dei Cedri. The cedar fruit, a historic symbol of the region, is meant to embody the community’s cultural heritage and serve as a tool for territorial promotion.
