Santa Maria di Licodia: 77-year-old rescued by helicopter after car plunges into ravine
A 77-year-old man was rescued by helicopter after his off-road vehicle plunged into a ravine in the rural area of Rocca del Corvo, near Santa Maria di Licodia, in the Catania province.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, October 17. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway for reasons still under investigation and fell into a steep area characterized by vineyards and difficult terrain. Because the location was inaccessible by land, rescue teams utilized the Drago VF142 helicopter from the Fontanarossa Flight Department to perform a winch rescue.
The man, who was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle's cabin, was lifted to safety and transferred to a landing area in Ragalna. He was subsequently taken to the San Marco Hospital in Catania for medical evaluation and treatment. The rescue operation involved the Paternò Fire Department, Alpine Rescue teams, and emergency medical services.
