Santa Maria Goretti Hospital presents radiology advancements in Copenhagen

The Interventional Radiology unit at the Santa Maria Goretti Hospital in Latina presented its clinical expertise at the CIRSE Annual Congress 2026 in Copenhagen. The event brought together over 1,500 healthcare professionals.

Dr. Giuseppe Pelle presented the department's work on CARTO/PARTO procedures, which are minimally invasive techniques used under local anesthesia to treat gastric varices in cirrhotic patients. This method is noted for its ability to provide complete healing while managing high hemorrhage risks. The Latina facility was among the first in Europe to perform these treatments and was the first in Europe to publish a study on the subject in the journal Gastrointestinal Disorders.

Additionally, Dr. Flavio Andresciani received an award at the congress for his work as a reviewer for the European journal CVIR Endovascular. The unit, directed by Dr. Cesare Ambrogi, is also recognized in Italy for its high volume of SIRT procedures, performing over 100 endovascular treatments per year using radioisotopes for liver tumors.
