David Mireles found deceased near Santa Barbara County Jail

The body of David Mireles, a 53-year-old man from Shafter, was discovered on Thursday, August 27, near the Santa Barbara County Main Jail Administration building. A custody staff member found the individual beneath brush on a hillside adjacent to the building.

Mireles had been missing since August 20, following his release from custody after a misdemeanor DUI arrest. Although deputies had previously conducted searches of the jail property and surrounding areas, his location was obscured by brush and a downward slope toward Honor Farm Road.

Preliminary investigations by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office indicate no signs of foul play. The decedent was identified through fingerprint analysis.
