Italy: Multiple investigations into environmental crimes and labor violations
Authorities in Italy have conducted several operations targeting environmental crimes and illegal labor practices. In Santa Marinella, the Guardia di Finanza seized a 2,500-square-meter area where approximately 700 cubic meters of special waste had been illegally buried. The operation also uncovered unauthorized construction in a protected landscape zone, resulting in the seizure of buildings and machinery valued at approximately 410,000 euros.
In San Ferdinando, Carabinieri intercepted two individuals burning plastic and synthetic waste, including PVC materials, in a rural area. The incident caused significant smoke and posed environmental risks. Similarly, in Argenta, forest police discovered an illegal hazardous waste depot used for dismantling electronic equipment (WEEE) to recover copper, leading to the seizure of various materials and equipment.
In Castello d'Argile, a textile company was suspended after an inspection revealed that all 12 employees, all Chinese nationals, were working without legal contracts. Several workers lacked valid residency permits. Additionally, a fire at a rehabilitation center in Campiglia Marittima necessitated the evacuation of 12 patients after an electrical unit caught fire, though no injuries were reported.
