Italy infrastructure: widespread road and rail maintenance closures
Various regions across Italy are implementing significant infrastructure maintenance, resulting in numerous road and rail closures.
On the A8 Milano-Varese motorway, night closures are scheduled between October 19 and October 24 for maintenance on overpasses, safety barriers, and noise barriers. Similarly, the A1 Milano-Napoli motorway will see night closures between Valdichiana and Monte San Savino for bridge inspections. The A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway will also undergo night paving works between Vasto Nord and Vasto Sud on October 18-19. In Sicily, the A18 Messina-Catania motorway will face a 12-hour total closure on October 18 to secure the Giardini tunnel following an August fire.
In Montelupo Fiorentino, a 400,000-euro project has concluded to stabilize the Turbone stream bank using large boulders. This intervention aims to prevent environmental damage by containing waste from a 1970s landfill exposed by recent landslides.
Local urban works include road resurfacing on the Subequana regional road in Abruzzo, water network upgrades in Jesi, and pedestrian safety improvements in Legnano. Additionally, the construction of the Tremezzina bypass near Lake Como is ongoing, with a projected completion date of April 2031.
