Santa Marta authorities intensify security and offer reward for attack information
Authorities in Santa Marta and Fundación are intensifying efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety. The GAULA unit, led by Major Carolina Correa Cuartas, is conducting awareness campaigns in strategic sectors to prevent kidnapping, extortion, and various forms of deception. These operations involve the National Police and National Army, focusing on educating merchants and business owners about criminal tactics such as subversive impersonation.
In a separate security matter, the Santa Marta Mayor's Office and Metropolitan Police have announced a 10 million peso reward for information leading to the identification of those responsible for an attack on communicator and activist Naylea Barros Martínez. The incident occurred on August 24 in the Minuto de Dios sector, where armed men fired upon Barros's vehicle. While Barros and a relative escaped uninjured, authorities are working with the Prosecutor's Office to investigate the circumstances and have implemented security measures for the victim and her family.
