Santa Marta boat capsizes with 20 tourists on board

A boat carrying 20 tourists capsized in the waters of Santa Marta, Colombia, on Saturday afternoon while traveling toward Playa Blanca. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. due to sudden changes in weather conditions and heavy swells.

All passengers were rescued without injuries. The Dirección General Marítima (Dimar) confirmed that all occupants were wearing life jackets, which was a decisive factor in their safety. Nearby vessels assisted in the rescue efforts after the boat overturned.

Dimar has opened a maritime accident investigation to determine the exact causes of the capsize and whether there were operational failures. The agency has advised tourists to use authorized departure points and monitor sea conditions before traveling.
