The Ocean Way Festival, scheduled to take place in Santa Monica, California, has been cancelled due to severe coastal damage caused by Hurricane Marie. The storm, intensified by a ‘Super’ El Niño weather pattern, produced 4.5-meter waves and significant storm runoff that eroded large portions of the festival site.

Santa Monica Mayor Caroline Torosis stated that the beach is currently unsafe for the tens of thousands of attendees expected for the event. The inaugural festival, promoted by Goldenvoice, was set to feature performances by The Killers, Jack White, and Olivia Dean.

The storm has caused widespread damage along the California coast, stretching from Malibu to Dana Point. In Malibu, authorities ordered the evacuation of 31 homes following the appearance of dangerous sinkholes. In Dana Point, at least seven homes were declared uninhabitable after rapid erosion caused one house to collapse into the sea.
