Santa Rita do Itueto ordered to replace temporary staff with permanent civil servants

A court in Minas Gerais has ordered the municipality of Santa Rita do Itueto to cease the practice of hiring temporary workers for permanent roles. The ruling follows a civil public action initiated by the State Public Ministry, which alleged that the city has not conducted a public competitive examination (concurso público) for over five years.

According to the Public Ministry, the administration has been using temporary contracts—intended only for emergency or exceptional situations—to fill routine positions such as dental technicians, nursing technicians, drivers, and community health agents. The court has mandated that the city present a plan within 180 days to replace these temporary staff with permanent, effective civil servants.
