Santana Cajal off‑road SUV debuts in Spain with BAIC partnership

Santana has introduced the Cajal, a rugged off‑road SUV built in Linares, Spain. The model uses the chassis of the Chinese BAIC BJ40 Pro, featuring a selectable four‑wheel‑drive system, rear‑axle reduction and three differential locks, placing it above the €50,000 price segment.

The vehicle combines a boxy design, LED lighting and a high roof, and is assembled locally after receiving its mechanical base from BAIC. The launch marks Santana’s return to off‑road production after decades of building Land Rover models under licence.
