Santana launches Cajal off‑road SUV with Chinese tech in Spain

Spanish automaker Santana has introduced the Cajal, its second off‑road model after reviving the brand. The vehicle is built on the Chinese BAIC BJ40 Pro platform but is assembled in Spain at the historic Linares factory in Jaén.

The Cajal measures 4.79 m in length with a 2.76 m wheelbase and features a rugged boxy body and external spare‑wheel mount. It will be offered with a 2.0‑litre turbo‑gasoline engine producing 245 hp or a 1.6‑litre turbodiesel with 163 hp, both paired with an eight‑speed automatic transmission. An electric version with a range extender is planned for later.

Modern safety and technology include ABS, front and side airbags, driver‑assist sensors, a rear‑view camera and an intelligent traction‑control system with front and rear differential locks. The Cajal will soon be available through Santana’s authorised dealerships in Spain.
