Santander and Taganga selected for maritime and blue economy initiatives

Santander, Spain, has been selected to host the 2027 European Maritime Day (EMD). Organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in collaboration with Spanish regional and national authorities, the event aims to bring together professionals, governments, and academics to address challenges in maritime sectors and promote a sustainable blue economy.

In Colombia, the town of Taganga is set to become the first Blue Innovation District for Santa Marta. Announced during the InnovAzul Caribe 2026 international meeting led by the Universidad del Magdalena, the initiative seeks to transform the relationship with the ocean by integrating ancestral fishing knowledge with scientific and technological research to drive employment and environmental solutions.
